Did you know that when you enroll in the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), you also qualify for Unitil’s reduced rate for your gas service even if your gas service is used exclusively for cooking, hot water or a clothes dryer?

Northern Utility Customers:
To enroll, simply include a copy of a recent Unitil bill in addition to all other required documentation together with your completed LIHEAP application and return it to your local Community Action Agency. Once Unitil receives confirmation that your LIHEAP application is approved, you will receive a 30% discount on your gas service. The discount rate is not retroactive, but it is effective for the next twelve (12) months and will make future bills more affordable. Bangor Gas Company Customers:
If you are a Bangor-area customer receiving the residential rate, you may be eligible to receive a 28% discount on your transportation rate. This discount applies to any customers identified by the Maine State Housing Authority as eligible for LIHEAP. Once enrolled, customers will receive the discount for as long as they are LIHEAP eligible.
