Unitil, (unitil.com), a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers in New England, has announced that applications are now being accepted for the Unitil Scholarship Fund, which will award $5,000 scholarships to five high school seniors majoring in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The scholarships are offered to students from communities in Unitil’s service territories in Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
“We’re pleased to once again provide this opportunity to recognize some of the brightest students in our region who have demonstrated outstanding potential while pursuing careers in STEM-related fields,” said Unitil External Affairs Director Alec O’Meara. “These are significant scholarships that we believe are critically important as we look for ways to support the next generation of STEM professionals.”
The recipients, who will each receive $5,000 for their first year of undergraduate study, are selected based on several criteria, including academic merit, financial need, other scholarships awarded, outside student activities, hours worked outside of class, and other factors.
The application period for the 2024-2025 academic year scholarship is now open. Completed applications can be submitted online on or before April 5 by visiting www.unitil.com/scholarship. Recipients will be notified no later than April 30.
Since its inception in 2011, the scholarship program has awarded $390,000 in financial support to students who demonstrate exceptional potential for careers in STEM.
