Blinding snow, bone-chilling wind, drenching rain and unbearable heat—Unitil’s linemen brave it all as they work to keep the power on under the most extreme circumstances.
Unitil depends on the expertise and dedication of lineman everyday to deliver power safely and reliably to over 102,700 electric customers in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. On April 18, Unitil joins utilities across the country to honor linemen in recognition of National Lineman Appreciation Day, according to a press statement.
“National Lineman Appreciation Day is an opportunity to extend a much-deserved ‘thank you’ to our hard-working linemen and their families,” said Alec O’Meara, media relations manager at Unitil. “We know that this is an incredibly demanding job that requires a unique combination of strength, bravery and problem-solving. Linemen go above and beyond to keep the lights on in our communities and for that we are extremely grateful.”
Unitil’s lineman work 365 days a year maintaining hundreds of miles of power lines andoften working long hours in dangerous conditions. In 2014, Unitil’s linemen—along with crews from across the U.S. and Canada—gave up Thanksgiving with their families to restore power in New Hampshire and Massachusetts following Blizzard Juno.
“It’s sacrifices like these that make linemen truly remarkable,” said O’Meara. “If you see a utility line truck today, please give a wave of thanks. That simple gesture will be greatly appreciated.”
