Great Wolf Lodge New England has been selected as a 2022 Mass Save Climate Leader, one of 19 commercial and industrial organizations in the state to receive the recognition.

Great Wolf Lodge New England was lauded for using the incentives, support, and rebates offered by its sponsor of Mass Save, Unitil, toward impactful investments in energy efficiency. Some of the improvements, which qualified for nearly $500,000 in incentives over the past seven years include new boilers, an energy management system, and lighting and variable frequency drives. Together, these improvements are projected to save over four million kWh in electricity and 55,000 therms of natural gas annually.

“We’re thrilled to be recognized for the second consecutive year as a Climate Leader,” said Henry Tessman, general manager of Great Wolf Lodge New England. “At Great Wolf Lodge, we’re consistently looking for ways to make our resorts more environmentally friendly and are proud to be recognized for initiatives that not only help the environment but enhance our guest experience. We look forward to finding innovative ways to continue being a leader in this area in the future.”

The savings are significant; four million kWh of electricity is equivalent to what over 500 homes would typically use annually.

“These investments are improving the energy efficiency of their facilities and are an outstanding example of how the hospitality industry can improve the reliability, as well as the sustainability without compromising delivery of services to their customer,” said Alec O’Meara, media relations manager for Unitil.

The sponsors of Mass Save, which includes Unitil as well as all other public utilities in the Commonwealth, selected this inaugural group of Climate Leaders based on a variety of factors. These include the total energy savings achieved over the past five to ten years, the historical level of energy savings relative to energy consumption, and the frequency and diversity of energy efficiency investments.
