An existing Unitil customer:

NOT an existing Unitil customer and will be added to our system:

3. Social Security Number or tax id
4. Phone number

This five-minute phone call will allow your authorized third party to receive bill copies and will take effect by your next billing cycle.

You may also authorize them to have access to your MyUnitil account and notifications such as letters and outage restorations. This can be done during your set-up phone call with customer service.

You may call to request the trustee be removed from your account anytime.

A number of payment locations are conveniently located throughout our service areas. To find a location to make a payment, please search for your nearest Western Union location.

Please be aware that some locations may require a bill in order to make a payment or process a security deposit. Federal requirements limit the maximum payment amount at $2,500 per transaction. Use only authorized payment agents to facilitate timely payment posting! Many of our customers pay their bill directly to us or use a payment agent that we've authorized to collect customer payments. However, some customers have used bill payment services that do not have any arrangements with us to process payments. We cannot ensure that payments made through one of these unauthorized bill payment services will be forwarded to us in a timely manner or even ensure that payment will be forwarded at all.

To protect yourself and your utility service, be sure to follow these steps:

• Use caution when making your payment through a third-party bill payment service that is not authorized by Unitil.
• Be sure to bring both portions (top and bottom) of your bill or provide your 10-digit Unitil account number.
• The payment agent might charge a service fee for each transaction. Check your local phone directory and contact the payment agent for specifics. Most importantly, always keep your receipt.

Net metering is the process of measuring the difference between the electricity supplied over the electric distribution system (by your utility company) and the electricity generated by an eligible on-site generator and fed back into the distribution system.

Historically, the electric grid has been a series of one-way streets with power flowing from a power plant to your neighborhood, street, and eventually your home. However, the concept of net metering is changing the way poles and wires are used. Homeowners who generate more electricity than they need through home-installed solar, wind, or other systems can push that electricity back out through their meters as a surplus. The “net” in net metering refers to the process where a customer’s overall account bill now reflects both the power being used and the amount of power being generated.

As a company, we support the idea that our customers should explore all options available, and that they are free to make a decision on an energy contract that is right for them.

Unitil’s electric customers in Massachusetts and New Hampshire have the option to take supply service from Unitil or purchase their electricity from competitive suppliers. This supply portion of your bill is only one portion of the overall rate that utility customers pay.

All of Unitil’s residential, commercial and industrial natural gas customers also may choose the company that supplies their natural gas – a right often referred to as customer choice. Your options will vary depending on your state.
