If you have a heat pump or are planning to install one, this new electric rate may benefit you!
This new rate class gives customers using heat pumps a reduced distribution rate during the winter months (November to April). You can benefit from this rate if your monthly usage in the winter is higher than the average Standard Residential Rate (R1) customer because you are heating your home with a heat pump. Even if you are only using a heat pump to partially heat your home, you may benefit from being on the Residential Heat Pump Rate.

How does the Heat Pump Rate work?
As shown below, the Heat Pump Rate has a lower distribution rate per kWh in the winter months, and the same distribution rate per kWh in the summer months and the same monthly customer charge as the Standard Residential Rate (R1).

Rate Eligibility
To participate in Unitil's Massachusetts Residential Heat Pump Rate, you will need to affirm that you have a heat pump and commit to being on the rate for a minimum of one year.
Income Eligibility
We offer a Heat Pump Rate especially designed for income-eligible customers. These customers will receive a discount on their total bill on top of the savings offered by the heat pump rate.
