Types of Proceedings
The Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU) oversees investor-owned electric, natural gas, and water utilities in Massachusetts. To ensure that service remains safe, reliable, and affordable the DPU holds a number of important regulatory proceedings on utility operations. The DPU has defined three tiers of such proceedings, which are ranked based on their significance to local operations and customers. Details on these tiers are listed below.
