Unitil Corporation, (www.unitil.com), a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers throughout New England, is remaining on alert through Monday in all of its service territories as the potential for severe winter weather is expected to continue through the day today.
While additional crews will be activated at 5 a.m. as planned, only scattered outages were reported overnight. At peak, approximately860 customers were without power at 1 a.m., with all of the reported outages occurring in North Central Massachusetts. At the time of this release, all customers have been restored. No overnight outages were reported in New Hampshire.
While the heaviest snow and winds were forecasted for the evening, Unitil is continuing to recommend customers prepare for sustained winter weather. If wires are down in your neighborhood, DO NOT approach them. Contact a Unitil customer service representative and a crew will be dispatched to your street to make repairs. Always assume downed wires are energized and stay away.
“Calling to report an outage assists us in identifying the location and nature of problems on the system,” Unitil Media Relations Manager Alec O’Meara said. “Never assume someone else has called in your outage for you.”
Unitil’s toll free phone numbers are:
For Massachusetts: 888-301-7700
For the NH Capital Area: 800-852-3339
For the NH Seacoast Area: 800-582-7276
Unitil will continue to provide updated information on restoration efforts as needed on www.unitil.com, and to local media and public officials on a regular basis.
“We are closely monitoring the storm and we encourage our customers to continue to do so as well,” O’Meara said. “We will remain prepared to respond to any and all outages until the storm is over, and we will be prepared to assist other utilities as well if needed.”
