Unitil, (www.unitil.com), a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers in New England, donated $2,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Fitchburg and Leominster.

“We are thrilled to receive the support of Unitil for our two robotics programs, our middle school program First Lego League and high school program First Robotics Competition. One serves as a pipeline for the other and then a whole host of career opportunities." Donata Martin, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Fitchburg and Leominster, said.

The club’s FIRST Robotics Competition program has students design and build a robot in six weeks to compete in regional competitions. The students advanced all the way to the world championships in St. Louis, Mo.  Its FIRST Lego League Robotics program introduces club members to group problem-solving as they create a Lego robot able to complete a set of tasks.

“We extend our congratulations to all the students and mentors who made it possible for the team to compete in the world championships,” said Alec O’Meara, media relations manager for Unitil.
