Unitil, (www.unitil.com), a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers in New England, is proud to announce the 2017 recipients of the Unitil Scholarship Fund. The program was created in 2011 to support students who demonstrate outstanding potential for careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering or math). This year, six high school seniors from Unitil’s service territories in New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts pursuing degrees in STEM will receive $5,000 for their first year of undergraduate study.
This year's recipients are:
- Connor Lennox of Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, a graduate of Winnacunnet High School. Connor plans to study Computer Science at University of New Hampshire.
- Collette Poisson of Stratham, New Hampshire, a graduate of Exeter High School. Collette plans on studying pre-med Biomedical Sciences at University of New Hampshire.
- Elizabeth West of Loudon, New Hampshire, a graduate of Merrimack Valley High School. Elizabeth plans to study Engineering at Roger Williams University.
- Lily Nygren of Scarborough, Maine, a graduate of Scarborough High School. Lily plans to study pre-med Biology at Bates College.
- Laura Jenny of Lunenburg, Massachusetts, a graduate of Leominster High School. Laura plans to study Biological Sciences at Harvard College.
As part of the program, a sixth student who is the child of a Unitil employee was also awarded a scholarship. Bradford Remse, a student at the Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School, was selected to receive this unique award. Bradford plans to study Computer Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
“We here at Unitil are proud to be able to offer these scholarships to this special group of students,” Unitil Media Relations Manager Alec O’Meara said. “We wish them the absolute best as they embark on the next phase of their educational career and we hope we are able to make their path toward a bright future easier.”
The Unitil Scholarship Fund joins the existing Peter J. Stulgis Scholarship Fund for students from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover, NH. More information about the Unitil Scholarship Fund can be found at www.unitil.com.
