Unitil Scholarship Recipients Announced

Six $5,000 scholarships awarded to graduating high school seniors pursuing STEM education

Unitil, (www.unitil.com), a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers in New England, is proud to announce the 2016 recipients of the Unitil Scholarship Fund. The program was created in 2011 to support students who demonstrate outstanding potential for careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering or math). This year, six high school seniors from Unitil’s service territories in New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts pursuing degrees in STEM will receive $5,000 for their first year of undergraduate study.

 

This year's recipients are:

  • Taryn Leach of Durham, New Hampshire, a graduate of Oyster River High School. Taryn plans to study Medical Biology at University of New England.
  • Zachary Parrott of North Hampton, New Hampshire, a graduate of Winnacunnet High School. Zachary plans on studying Engineering Physics at Colorado School of Mines.
  • Josephine Bowen of Lunenburg, Massachusetts, a graduate of Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science. Josephine plans to study Mechanical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
  • Chad Eaton of Loudon, New Hampshire, a graduate of Merrimack Valley High School. Chad plans to study Biomedical Engineering at Clemson University.
  • Carina Ryan of Springvale, Maine, a graduate of Sanford High School. Carina plans to study Engineering at University of Maine at Orono.

 

As part of the program, a sixth student who is the child of a Unitil employee was also awarded a scholarship. Camdyn Heikkinen, a home-schooled student of Deerfield, New Hampshire, was selected to receive this unique award. Camdyn plans to study Business Administration at NH Technical Institute.

“Unitil is thrilled to support the next generation of students who will undoubtedly have an impressive impact on the science and technology industries,” said Unitil Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs Carol Valianti. “We wish them success as they move on to a new and exciting chapter in their lives.”

The Unitil Scholarship Fund joins the existing Peter J. Stulgis Scholarship Fund for students from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover, NH. More information about the Unitil Scholarship Fund can be found at www.unitil.com
