Unitil Corporation, (www.unitil.com), a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers in New England, is proud to announce the 2013 recipients of the Unitil Scholarship Fund. The program was created in 2011 to support students who demonstrate outstanding potential for careers in science, technology, engineering, or math. Five high school seniors from Unitil’s service territories in New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts, who are pursuing degrees in these areas, will each receive $5,000 for their first year of undergraduate study.
The 2013 recipients of the Unitil Scholarship Fund are:
- Daniel Okuniewicz, Jr. of Newton, New Hampshire, a graduate of Sanborn Regional High School. Daniel plans to study Electrical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
- Lex Jimenez of Lewiston, Maine, a graduate of Lewiston High School. Lex plans to study Electrical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
- Jessica Leclair of Rochester, New Hampshire, a graduate of Spaulding High School. Jessica plans to study Biology with a concentration in Neuroscience at Emmanuel College.
- Megan Sackett of Bow, New Hampshire, a graduate of Bow High School. Megan plans to study Electrical Engineering at the United States Coast Guard Academy.
- Rachel Proctor of Lunenburg, Massachusetts, a graduate of Lunenburg High School. Rachel plans to study Environmental Science at Saint Michael’s College.
Also as part of the program, a sixth student who is the child of a Unitil employee was also awarded a scholarship. Christian Main of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, a graduate of Portsmouth High School, was selected to receive this unique award. Christian plans to study Actuarial Science at Bentley University.
“Unitil is proud to support the next generation of STEM scholars,” said Unitil Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs Carol Valianti. “We believe strongly in the importance of STEM education and it is our hope that the Unitil Scholarship Fund will help these talented students achieve their academic goals.”
The Unitil Scholarship Fund joins the existing NH Electric Operations Scholarship Program (for Exeter Area High School, Sanborn Regional High School, Timberlane Regional High School, and Winnacunnet High School students) and the Peter J.
