Have you ever wondered why shoes hanging on a power line don’t get fried? Or why natural gas flames are blue? Now Unitil can help you learn the answers!
Just in time for back-to-school, Unitil (www.unitil.com), a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers in New England, has launched a dynamic new website to expand students’ knowledge of gas and electric science, safety, energy efficiency and sustainability. Unitil’s e-SMART website (www.unitil.e-smartonline.net), aimed at students in grades K-12, complements in-school science lessons and makes learning about energy fun and exciting.
“Unitil is committed to supporting STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education and helping our local students succeed,” said Carol Valianti, Unitil’s vice president of communications and public affairs. “Our new e-SMART website is a fantastic tool for students, families and educators who are interested in learning about how to use gas and electricity safely, efficiently and sustainably. Through e-SMART, we hope to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and creative thinkers.”
On the e-SMART website, parents and students can learn about energy by playing interactive games, watching videos and participating in fun activities. In addition to materials aimed at students and families, e-SMART also features a portal where educators can order free classroom materials and guides that support state science and health education standards in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
Unitil is committed to supporting STEM education and to improving the overall quality of life in our local communities. For more information about Unitil’s community and education initiatives, please visit: http://www.unitil.com/our-community.
