Unitil Corporation, (www.unitil.com), a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers throughout New England, would like to congratulate Dover-based Revolution Energy for the successful completion of its 100 kW solar array serving Exeter High School.

As a financial partner, Unitil invested approximately $200,000 in the solar array, which has been operating since the start of the 2010-11 school year and is projected to meet 5-10 percent of the school’s energy needs over the course of the year. As a whole, the project is expected to save the school district $20,000 a year. On top of the savings to taxpayers, the array will be used as a vital part of the school curriculum for science and technology.

“Unitil is proud to be a partner in this innovative project and to be able to help provide Exeter High School with this tremendous asset,” George Gantz, Unitil’s Senior Vice President of distributed energy resources said. “When businesses work together to find ways to better the community, we all benefit.”

Outside of the 465 solar panels which now greet all visitors to the school along the driveway, Unitil has also invested in a natural gas powered micro-turbine as part of its partnership with Revolution Energy. Located at the Seacoast School of Technology at Exeter, the turbine is twice as efficient as getting power from a gas-powered plant, meaning the same amount of power is produced for local use with half the greenhouse gas emissions.

"When striving for innovation, especially in this ever-evolving world of renewable energy, you look to surround yourself with partners who see your vision," Michael Behrmann, co-founder and principal of Revolution Energy said. "Unitil has been that partner here in Exeter for this project and Revolution Energy thanks them for it!"
