An independent audit of Unitil's management structure for its Fitchburg Gas & Electric division has concluded it is one of the more reliable utilities in the state.
The audit that was ordered by the state Department of Public Utilities was meant to determine whether the New Hampshire-based utility's Massachusetts operations can sufficiently meet its service obligations to customers.
It focused on operations, its system of internal controls, reliability, emergency response, and communications.
"Based on our analysis, we conclude that following the 2008 ice storm FG&E has been responsive and has undertaken significant initiatives and steps to improve overall performance and in particular, communications and storm response," the report said. "Most, if not all, of these initiatives were fast-tracked by the Company and are currently in place and functioning."
