Unitil expands renewable energy offerings in Fitchburg

Unitil is celebrating the first summer season of operation of its 1.3 MW solar array at 115 Sawyer Passway. The property, vacant for 20 years, had been used to generate energy for the city dating to before the Civil War, most notably as a fossil fuel plant for much of the 20th century. Today, the site has returned to its historical use for Fitchburg, generating clean, renewable energy in support of the Green Communities Act.
