Unitil,  a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers in New England, was recently honored with two industry awards that recognize its energy efficiency programs aimed at reducing both energy costs and environmental impact.

In March, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized NH CORE Utilities (a group that includes Unitil, N.H. Electric Co-op, Liberty Utilities, and PSNH) with a 2013 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Award for its outstanding contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by delivering energy efficiency information and services to its customers. Unitil promotes ENERGY STAR-labeled products through its electric energy efficiency programs and rebates available to Massachusetts and New Hampshire electric customers. Natural gas customers can also receive energy efficiency assessments and rebates.

Over the last 20 years, with help from ENERGY STAR, American families and businesses have saved more than $230 billion on utility bills and prevented more than 1.8 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. Unitil representatives were honored at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on March 26.

Additionally, the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) recognized Unitil along with other Massachusetts efficiency program administrators as “exemplary” for its Mass Save® Home Energy Services (HES) Program offering, as well as its Low-Income Multi Family Energy Retrofits/LEAN Multifamily Program. ACEEE selected and recognized programs judged to be models for other utilities and organizations. Unitil was chosen from numerous nominations received by ACEEE in a national solicitation.

“Unitil has long believed in the value of energy efficiency initiatives to reduce both costs for our customers and impact to our environment,” said Cindy Carroll, Unitil’s director, customer energy solutions. “We’re honored that both ACEEE and the EPA have recognized our programs, and we’re committed to continuing and expanding our offerings in the years to come."
