Unitil is encouraging its customers to take advantage of Mass Save’s appliance recycling program, which pays $50 to residential electric customers who recycle old and inefficient refrigerators or freezers.

“This is a tremendous program,” said Alec O’Meara, media relations for Unitil. “New to the program this year, Mass Save is offering residents the opportunity to recycle their primary refrigerator or a secondary refrigerator or freezer that many homeowners have in their basement or garage.”

To qualify for the program, the customer must be a valid Unitil residential electric account holder; the refrigerators or freezers must be plugged in, clean and empty at the time of pickup; and must have an inside measurement between 10 and 30 cubic feet, which is the standard size for most units. The unit must be picked up by December 31, 2016. No more than two units per household, per calendar year, will be accepted.

To schedule a no-cost pickup, customers may call 1-877-889-4761. Unitil is a sponsor of Mass Save.
