Unitil, (www.unitil.com), a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers in New England, donated a gas detector to the Gardner Fire Department.
While conducting training for the fire department, Dan Golden, gas operation manager for Unitil, noticed that the city was using an older gas detector model and offered to donate the latest technology.
The new gas detector will give the fire department the ability to determine the amount of four different gases present during a call.
"This equipment allows firefighters to make quick decisions based on the readings and also determine oxygen levels during an emergency."
Media Relations Manager Alec O’Meara
Unitil will calibrate the instrument on a monthly basis for the fire department.
