Unitil Corporation, (www.unitil.com), a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers in New England, has restored power to the majority of customers impacted by yesterday’s nor’easter.
As of 9:00 p.m., approximately 390 customers are without power, down from a peak of approximately 24,800, or 52 percent of all Unitil customers in the coastal region, early Thursday morning. Crews will continue to work overnight to restore power to the remaining customers out. Some single services and isolated pockets are expected to last into tomorrow.
"As we move into the final phase of restoration, the potential exists for what is called “nested” outages, or outages still impacting individual homes after the rest of a street is restored. If you are still without power but the rest of your street has power, we recommend calling Unitil customer service to make sure your individual outage is reported."
Alec O’Meara, Unitil Media Relations Manager
In the event of downed wires, assume all cables and wires that have fallen or dangling are energized and stay away. Be sure to avoid wet ground or puddles near a downed lined because water conducts electricity. In addition, keep away from all flooded and debris laden areas because they may be hiding downed lines. Stay in a safe place and avoid driving in damaged areas so you don’t interfere with rescue and restoration efforts.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR MEDIA: Unitil asks that when reporting outage information, outlets time stamp the information. Outage numbers change hourly and we wish to make sure the information customers receive is consistent and understandable. Re-Tweets and re-posting of old information without referencing a time can create confusion.
