Unitil Corporation, (www.unitil.com), a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers throughout New England, is currently working to restore power to the final 235 customers who have been impacted by today’s spring snowstorm. With the storm departing the region, Unitil is planning to close its system and regional operations centers at 12:00 noon and return to normal operations.

As of 11:30 a.m., approximately 235 customers are without power through the Unitil system, down from an 8 a.m. peak of 1,500. Approximately 9 customers are still without power in the Concord area, 71 in north-central Massachusetts and 155 along the New Hampshire seacoast. At 7 a.m. Friday morning, Unitil opened its system and regional emergency operations centers to coordinate the approximately 100 Unitil and third party contractor crews on-hand system-wide to address reported outages as they occurred. While the emergency operations center will close, Unitil will keep additional crews on throughout the day to aid in any additional restoration efforts needed.

“Unitil will continue to monitor the storm through the evening but it does appear the worst has passed our service territory,” O’Meara said. “Our electric infrastructure has held up well through a number of powerful storms this season and this storm has again followed that trend.”

The majority of customers still without power are expected to have power restored by the afternoon. There may be instances of individual homeowners or businesses still without electricity on roads or streets where power has been restored. Power loss to individual residences can occur for a variety of reasons, such as unique damage to the premises.
