Unitil Corporation, (Unitil.com), a provider of natural gas and electricity to New England customers, recently partnered with NH1 Motorplex, as part of its ongoing AECOM energy auditing program, to complete a comprehensive energy efficiency project.
"We are grateful for the partnership with Unitil and the opportunity to upgrade to LED lighting throughout our facility. The savings were essential after the reduction of our earning potential during the COVID-19 pandemic."
Pam Jennison, Co-owner of NH1 Motorplex
NH1 Motorplex opened in 2017 and by April 2019 needed to replace 100 fluorescent lightbulbs. The project included a complete retrofit of LED lighting in the 49,000 square foot facility. The upgrades saved NH1 Motorplex over 83,000 kWh of electricity and more than $12,000 annually. The project received more than $19,000 in Unitil incentives, which covered 50 percent of the total project costs, including material and labor.
"As New Hampshire’s only electric go-kart racing facility, charging the karts contributes significantly to our electricity bill so we were looking for any way to reduce our usage. We are grateful for the partnership with Unitil and the opportunity to upgrade to LED lighting throughout our facility. The savings were essential after the reduction of our earning potential during the COVID-19 pandemic," said Pam Jennison, Co-owner of NH1 Motorplex.
AECOM has partnered with Unitil since 2018 to identify opportunities where businesses can both save money and reduce their carbon output by using energy more efficiently. The energy auditors identified NH1 Motorplex as an ideal candidate for this energy efficiency project because any energy savings would provide a significant benefit to the facility’s operating expenses.
“After such an extensive upgrade to LED lighting throughout the facility, we’re thrilled with the results of our project and the benefits NH1 Motorplex will continue to receive,” said Alec O’Meara, Media Relations Manager for Unitil. “We commend the organization for not only showing how fun electric vehicles are, but also for prioritizing energy efficiency initiatives. These updates came at an essential time given all the changes that they and many businesses continue to experience as a result of the pandemic. We encourage businesses and residential customers alike to optimize efficiency wherever possible.”
