Unitil, a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers in New England, and United Way have renewed their partnership for the 14th year. Unitil and the United Way work together to improve the overall quality of life in the communities in which they serve by confronting issues facing local children, youth and families.
“Unitil shares the United Way’s view that the way to improve lives is by mobilizing the caring power of communities,” said Carol Valianti, Unitil’s vice president of communications. “As we enter our 14th year of working together, we are excited to build on our longstanding partnership and explore new ways to help the community.”
“Making a difference in the community and changing people’s lives requires partnership through all sectors,” said Cindy Boyd, Managing Director of United Way of the Greater Seacoast. “We are thrilled to strengthen our relationship with such an important player in the business community like Unitil.”
The Unitil and United Way partnership will focus on the following key areas in 2013:
Volunteerism & Giving
- We all have special talents and skills that can be used to help others. Unitil employees and customers will be encouraged to volunteer through United Way to make a positive impact on our community.
- Each year, Unitil employees join hundreds of other volunteers to participate in the United Way Day of Caring. In 2013, Unitil employees will again donate their time to assist United Way partner agencies with a host of projects that normally cannot get done by the agency due to financial and personnel constraints.
- Unitil employees will be presented with numerous opportunities to support United Way, including a K-Ready Kids book drive and an employee fundraising campaign. In 2012, employees in NH, ME and MA donated over $62,000 to support United Way.
Youth Opportunities
- Youth that are connected to their community will be better positioned to avoid risky decisions and graduate high school. Unitil will continue to support United Way in its efforts to develop the young leaders of today into adult leaders of tomorrow and to encourage students to pursue positive, healthy behaviors.
Healthy Child Development
- The economic future of our communities depends on all children entering kindergarten ready to learn. Unitil supports United Way in its efforts to provide children and families with access to high quality early learning programs and to outfit parents with the skills to nurture their children.
Family Financial Stability
- Financially stable families are the key to successful, sustainable communities. Unitil and United Way will work together to equip families with the tools, knowledge and resources to improve and sustain their financial health.
