Do you think you are smarter than a New Hampshire high school student? If you compare yourself to the brilliant students that competed in this year’s “Granite State Challenge” on New Hampshire Public Television, the answer is probably not!

Unitil is proud to be the lead sponsor of “Granite State Challenge,” a beloved quiz show that brings New Hampshire’s top high school academic teams head-to-head in a battle of brainy bragging rights. We recently interviewed Nisha Devasia of this year's winning team—Nashua High South in Nashua, New Hampshire—to talk about her experience on the show and how she prepared for the challenge of competing on TV.

How did it feel to win the Granite State Challenge?

It felt great! Most of our teammates are graduating this year, so it was nice to take first place before the team broke up.

How did you feel when you heard the show would be returning again this year?

Happy! If we hadn’t had GSC this year our entire team would have been pretty disappointed. We started training for this season at the very beginning of the year!

Do you have any words of advice for future coaches, or students?

Find a topic within the Granite State Challenge questions and specialize in it. I believe that's why we did so well!

Why did you decide to join the team?

Quizbowl is one of my favorite pastimes, so when Dody Eid (Nashua High South's team captain) told us two years ago that he was forming a Granite State Challenge team, I was thrilled!

What did you enjoy most about being a part of this team?

It was fun to be with everybody, both in and outside of practice! It’s very rare that you find a group of people who have all the same interests as we do. We worked together and performed very well as a team.
