Unitil Corporation, (Unitil.com), a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers in New England, has restored power to the majority of customers impacted by Friday’s high wind event, but crews will continue working to bring those in isolated pockets and customers with single service issues back online.
As of 4:45 p.m., approximately 590 Unitil customers in New Hampshire are without power, down from a Friday evening peak of approximately 22,000. Over the duration of the event, which included two distinct bands of strong winds that caused significant damage throughout the region, Unitil restored power to as many as 42,000 customers.
“Unfortunately, this storm has disrupted holiday plans for so many families who have been forced to either cancel gatherings or make alternate arrangements. We understand the difficult decisions they’ve had to make and appreciate their patience as our crews worked tirelessly through this event to bring the lights back on for as many customers as possible for Christmas Day,” Unitil Media Relations Manager Alec O’Meara said. “It’s important to remember that while most customers have their power back, the work isn’t over and our resilient force of lineworkers will keep at it until power is restored to everyone in our service territories.”
Unitil plans to close its system and regional emergency operation centers tonight and resume normal operations in New Hampshire as crews transition to restoring power to those remaining customers. Normal operations in Massachusetts resumed midday Saturday.
Customers who remain without power after their neighbors have been restored are urged to call Unitil customer service and report the outage again. Some of these customers may have service issues specific to their home and will require work by a private electrician before restoration can be completed. Once the work is complete, customers should call customer service to have restoration completed.
Customers experiencing outages should call 1-888-301-7700.
