Unitil, (www.unitil.com), a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers in New England, partnered with Fitchburg Access Television to make energy efficiency improvements to their Kimball Street office space.
According to Scott May, executive director of Fitchburg Access Television, the nonprofit upgraded their studio lighting several years ago, resulting in significant energy savings, and wanted to reduce its usage and carbon footprint for the office space too.
Unitil utilized its ‘Turnkey Vendor’ program to upgrade all the lighting to LEDs to improve the appearance of their office while reducing energy consumption by 6,790 kWh annually.
"This is a great program because it truly is turnkey for a busy business owner, with all the work completed by an approved Unitil vendor."

The project cost was $6,968 and with a $4,877 Unitil rebate, the final investment was $2,090 for Fitchburg Access Television.
The upgraded lighting will save 67,900 kWh of electricity over its lifetime—equivalent to the annual energy usage of 9 homes. “In addition to reducing their energy consumption, LED lighting fixtures have a significantly longer life than traditional lighting, which will reduce their operation cost too,” added O’Meara.
