Hampton Community Coalition thanks volunteers, supporters

New tires. You can't pass your car inspection with worn, dangerous tires. You also can't get to work without an inspection sticker on the windshield: "I was overwhelmed. I am so grateful for the help and compassion from HCC during this very hard time."

The volunteers of the Hampton Community Coalition help struggling families with all sorts of transportation emergencies. Oh, then there are our clients who don't have a car at all. Or a permanent home.

This year, HCC welcomed over 100 walk-in clients with children in our schools to Hobbs House. When you consider that it takes a bit of desperation to swallow your pride enough to ask for help, that's a monster number.

The vast majority of our clients are working — part-time — as they search for full-time jobs. The wrinkle is that at $8 an hour, you can barely pay for gas, rent, and the utility bills. A surprise medical co-pay or colder-than-usual weather can push a family over the edge.

...And we only can do this work because of the stunning generosity of 78 amazing individual donors and our wonderful Rotary partners. A few local businesses even surprised us this year with serious donations: SAN Network, Unitil, Dodge's Agway and Tec, Inc (an engineering firm expanding to Hampton Beach this year.)
