Unitil, (www.unitil.com), a provider of natural gas and electricity to New England customers, provided Great Wolf Lodge New England with an energy efficiency rebate that will help the family resort save, annually, nearly a quarter million kilowatts of electricity.
The 68,000-square-foot waterpark destination, which opened in 2014, replaced 400-watt halide fixtures with 54 144-watt LED fixtures and five 88-watt fixtures. It is anticipated the project will save 226,000 kWh of electricity annually, the energy equivalence of 31 residential homes.
“Through our Project Green Wolf initiative, we have implemented a number of programs to help reduce our impact on the environment,” shared Henry Tessman, general manager for Great Wolf Lodge New England. “Reducing energy consumption is one of our Green Wolf initiatives and by working with Unitil on a new lighting package, we’ve been able to greatly reduce the amount of energy needed to illuminate our indoor water park facilities.”
Unitil provided an $11,800 rebate through Mass Save—a collaborative of natural gas and electric utilities in the state that help residents and businesses save energy—toward the total project cost of $96,053.
“This project really shows how quickly lighting technology continues to evolve,” Alec O’Meara, Unitil Media Relations Manager for Unitil. “Mass Save energy programs can offer an opportunity to find some real savings, and we encourage businesses and residential customers alike to take advantage of these initiatives.”
