Energy Efficient Pump Station Commissioned in Hampton

The Town of Hampton today celebrated the commissioning of its new pump station on Church Street. The pump station is a vital piece of the town’s wastewater infrastructure and transfers all wastewater from portions of its beach community to the main treatment facility.

 

The new, energy efficient pump station replaces an outdated facility which had been located at the same site since 1935. The new pump station, designed by Wright-Pierce, an environmental engineering firm, will provide more efficient wastewater pumping while at the same time reducing overall maintenance and energy costs for the town.

 

 “It was a pleasure to work collaboratively with the Town of Hampton in the development of their new pump station. Their enthusiasm for providing reliable and cost-effective components for their community made this a great fit for Wright-Pierce,” said Tim Vadney, senior project manager, Wright-Pierce.

 

Unitil, a provider of electricity and natural gas to customers in New England, worked closely with both the town and with Wright-Pierce to implement energy efficiency measures in the new pump station. Wright-Pierce designed the pump station to use both of the town’s existing sewer force mains, which minimized electric consumption by reducing the total connected horsepower. Other various energy efficiency items were also included in the design, which were eligible for participation with Unitil’s energy efficiency programs. This approach allowed the Town of Hampton to be granted over $50,000 in rebates by Unitil.
