Cobham Antenna Systems, a manufacturer of radar and communication system components for ships, submarines and aircraft, has completed the expansion of its manufacturing facility on Continental Drive in Exeter.
Working closely with Unitil, a provider of natural gas and electricity in New England, Cobham has implemented eco-friendly programs and practices in the new addition that will reduce carbon dioxide generation by 7,404 tons (14 million pounds). By participating in energy efficiency programs, Cobham will save over $840,000 over the lifetime of its equipment including lighting, air compressors, and HVAC systems.
“Cobham is committed to reducing energy consumption to support a position of sustainability which is quite simply the right thing to do for the environment,” said Steve Bouchard, General Manager, Cobham Antenna Systems. “We appreciate all the assistance Unitil has provided and encourage other companies to take advantage of the available energy efficiency programs.”
The expansion project doubles the size of the company’s existing facility and consists of 70,000 square feet of manufacturing space on the first floor and 35,000 square feet of office and conference room space on the second floor. Cobham’s new addition incorporates environmentally friendly materials including energy efficient windows and fixtures.
“Cobham is an outstanding example of a company that has realized significant business benefits by participating in energy efficiency programs,” said Tim Noonis, Senior Business Development Manager, Unitil. “Unitil is committed to helping companies improve and maintain optimal energy efficiency and is pleased to offer innovative energy efficiency programs to all of its customers.”
Cobham employs approximately 400 people in two facilities in Exeter. Cobham is the premier supplier, producer, and/or manufacturer of Waveguide and Interconnect RF Components, Flat Plate Antennas (both commercial and military), and Rotary RF Systems, for the aerospace and defense market.
