Dual-Service Customers

If you are a dual-service residential customer (you receive both gas and electric service from Unitil), you will receive both the gas rate adjustment and the electric credit.

Residential Gas Rate Adjustment

Following concerns regarding higher bills during the colder months, the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities required the state’s natural gas utilities – including Unitil – to reduce delivery rates over the next two months (March and April). Unitil’s bill reductions of approximately 10% began on March 1, 2025.

Residential Electric Credit

As part of ongoing efforts to reduce energy bill impacts, the Healey-Driscoll Administration recently announced an Energy Affordability Agenda, which, among other elements, provides residential customers of the state’s electric utilities – including Unitil - with a $50 credit on their April bill.

Additional Items of Note:

The Department of Public Utilities approved the three-year energy efficiency plan for 2025-2027, but required the sponsors of Mass Save to revise the plan and reduce it by $500 million.
There may be additional rate adjustments related to the energy efficiency surcharge within the local distribution adjustment charge, but specifics are not yet available.
