Pro Tip:
Hiring a Contractor?
Don't assume your contractor has made the call. Protect yourself, your neighbors, and underground utilities by asking:
"Have you contacted Dig Safe for this project?"
We all share in the responsibility of keeping our community safe! Start your free request at DigSafe.com or by calling 811.
How it Works:
It’s simple, and it’s the law. Just follow these steps:
- Pre-mark your digging site with white flags or white paint.
- Notify Dig Safe by calling 811 or visiting digsafe.com. Be sure to contact Dig Safe at least 72 hours (3 business days) before you plan to dig. It's easy to answer the prompts to provide the information regarding your upcoming project.
- Wait for the crews to visit your property and mark the approximate locations of buried lines with colorful flags or paint. Each utility sends its own crew to mark its utility type, so multiple crews may need to visit.
- Consider non-member utilities and private utilities. Click here for more info.
- Once utilities are marked, you can start digging. Respect the marks and dig carefully!
