Currently, Unitil’s natural gas distribution system is the largest in Maine serving approximately 41,000 customers from Kittery to Lincoln out of our Portland and Bangor Operations Centers.

Additional services such as our 24/7 Gas Control Center and our Corporate Headquarters are based out of our New Hampshire locations, minutes from the Maine border.

In January 2025, Unitil acquired Bangor Natural Gas which serves the Greater Bangor region. Learn more about the BNG acquisition.

Maine Natural Gas serves approximately 6,000 customers across 12 central and mid-coast communities in Maine.

Unitil will bring our nationally recognized customer service and operational safety practices to Maine Natural Gas customers.

• Our operations team has received multiple Best Practice recognitions from the American Gas Association and the Northeast Gas Association for its safety programs, third-party training procedures, advanced GIS mapping technologies, and overall operational excellence.

Unitil has directly credited its 2008 process of integrating with Northern Utilities as creating the foundation of its safety programs. Integrating MNG will create the same opportunities for continuous improvement and a goal of zero incidents.

Unitil is a firm supporter of Maine's climate goals. We believe gas and gas infrastructure will play an important role in helping the state meet those goals.
