LEXINGTON, MA – Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP) has announced that St. Paul’s School will be recognized as a ‘Business Leader for Energy Efficiency’ at the Northeast Energy Efficiency Summit in Warwick, RI on June 8, 2011. Nominated by Unitil, St. Paul’s School is being honored for its continued efforts to advance energy efficiency in its operations, which have resulted in annual energy savings of over 462,000 kWh and cost savings of over $56,000.

As part of its core commitment to practice and teach an ethical relationship between humans and their environment, St. Paul’s has partnered with Unitil since 2008 to reduce energy use and costs.

Older lighting has been replaced with high-efficient fluorescents as well as updated HID and LED lighting where practical. The facilities staff is also continually replacing old inefficient windows as well as insulating and air sealing buildings. Occupancy controls have been installed in large areas across the campus where only a portion of the facility is used at a particular time. The school’s central boiler now accommodates natural gas as well as heating oil. Also, upgraded equipment and additional control points have been added to the school’s heating/ventilating/air conditioning (HVAC) system.

“Environmental sustainability is a core value at St. Paul’s, and this is a school that practices what it preaches at every level,” Gary Miller, senior business development executive at Unitil said. “By striving to find the latest proven efficiency technologies and applications to enhance its facilities, St. Paul’s shows that a commitment to the environment can be cost-effective without sacrificing functionality or maintainability.”
