On most days, Unitil employee Andrea Jones works as a senior business analyst out of the main office in Hampton, N.H., but Thursday morning found her working as an emergency pole and transformer coordinator in Fitchburg during an emergency drill.

Jones said her task included making sure efforts to restore power didn't conflict with other users of the utility poles, like the telephone company.

Unitil has more than 430 employees, and nearly all of them participate in the annual drill to react to a mock emergency.

The drill simulated a Category 3 hurricane that knocked out more than 90 percent of power across Unitil's coverage area in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The scenario was dreamed up by Richard Francazio, the company's director of emergency management, and covered preparations before the storm and the first 48 hours of the emergency.
