Six aspiring female high school seniors pursuing STEM education to receive $5,000 scholarships
June 6, 2019
Hampton, NH

Unitil, (www.unitil.com), a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers in New England, is proud to announce the 2019 recipients of the Unitil Scholarship Fund. This year, six high school seniors from Unitil’s service territories in New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts pursuing degrees in STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) will receive $5,000 for their first year of undergraduate study. This year’s recipients are all women, the first time in the program’s history.

The 2019 students are:

  • Mackenzie Daley of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, a graduate of Fitchburg High School. Mackenzie plans to study Biology at UMASS Amherst.
  • Taylor Laflamme of North Yarmouth, Maine, a graduate of Greely High School. Taylor plans to study Biochemistry at Clark University.
  • Elizabeth Menard of Dover, New Hampshire, a graduate of Dover High School. Elizabeth plans to study Bioengineering at the University of New Hampshire.
  • Jasmine Gormley of Boscawen, New Hampshire, a graduate of Merrimack Valley High School. Jasmine plans to study Biomedical Engineering at Yale University.
  • Kelsey Peirce of Brentwood, New Hampshire, a graduate of Exeter High School. Kelsey plans to study Mechanical Engineering at Southern New Hampshire University.

As part of the program, a sixth student who is the daughter of a Unitil employee will receive a scholarship. Allison MacDougall of Kensington, New Hampshire is a graduate of Exeter High School. She plans to study Elementary Education at Keene State College.

Created in 2011, the program supports students who demonstrate exceptional potential for careers in STEM. As Jessica Leclair, a 2013 recipient mentioned, “The scholarship allowed me to shift some of my focus from how I could afford college, to how I could take advantage of relevant STEM opportunities not only at Emmanuel, but nation-wide, in order to become the best scientist I could be."

“Unitil is thrilled to recognize six hardworking young women pursuing careers in STEM. Their futures are bright. We wish them well on their journeys to freshman year.
