Seacoast area restoration likely to last through Friday
October 17, 2019
Hampton, NH

Unitil has restored power to a majority of customers in the Concord area, with some isolated areas and single service issues remaining. Restoration in the seacoast area continues to make progress as well, with restoration to a majority of customers on track for end of day Friday.

As restoration continues, there will be areas where an individual service or small groups may be out after neighbors have been restored. If there are customers still without power who see service restored to their street or to their immediate neighbors, they should report their outage again immediately. Some individual customer issues may require work from a private electrician before restoration can occur. In these unique instances, crews will leave notification at the residence upon arrival.

As of 10 p.m., approximately 1,800 customers are still without power in the NH seacoast area, where wind damage was more severe. All Unitil Massachusetts customers who lost power overnight were restored that morning. At peak, approximately 15,300 Unitil customers were without power Thursday morning.

Crews will continue to work through the night, and we will have well rested crews ready to go in the morning to attack what will be left on the system. The winds caused a number of small, isolated areas to be affected, and our restoration efforts will be focused on individual homes and streets as the day wears on tomorrow.

If using a generator at your home, please note that an improperly installed or positioned generator can cause exhaust, containing deadly carbon monoxide, to accumulate in your dwelling. Installing a carbon monoxide detector can help detect this odorless and colorless gas before it becomes a dangerous concern. In addition, such generators can “backfeed” electricity into the distribution lines and electrical equipment, seriously injuring or electrocuting a line worker or anyone who may touch a now-energized line thought to be dead. More important safety messages on generator usage can be found online at Unitil.com.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR MEDIA: Unitil asks that when reporting outage information, outlets time stamp the information. Outage numbers change hourly and we wish to make sure the information customers receive is consistent and understandable. Re-Tweets and re-posting of old information without referencing a time can create confusion.

Customers experiencing outages should call 1-888-301-7700.
