The expansion and upgrades will accommodate load growth throughout the area and will free up capacity at other system supplies for the future. The project has finally come to an end and for the substation to be powered on!

Many environmental factors can create potentially hazardous conditions — harsh weather, vegetation and animal contact, even motor vehicle accidents. Many times those conditions cause service interruptions. We need to do everything we can in order to ensure we’re ready when the time comes. That’s why, outside of the standard training Unitil employees undergo, we regularly perform company-wide preparation drills.

Trees near power lines are the single greatest cause of power outages on most electric systems. Unitil performs enhanced tree pruning work to help increase our electric system's resiliency during a major storm. We strive to achieve ground-to-sky clearance that includes the removal of trees and branches growing above our electric wires as well as the incompatible trees growing underneath them that could cause future problems.
