Gas and electric crews leave this morning for New Jersey and Rhode Island
November 1, 2012
Hampton, NH
Unitil, (www.unitil.com), a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers in New England, has sent crews to assist with restoration in some of the northeast regions most severely impacted by the Hurricane Sandy ”Superstorm.”

Unitil completed its restoration in New Hampshire prior to midnight Wednesday and has returned to normal operations in all service territories. In response to requests from other utilities, five electric crews have left to assist National Grid in Rhode Island and 12 natural gas workers have left to assist New Jersey Natural Gas with any repairs needed to gas infrastructure. The Unitil electric crews left with the expectation that once complete in Rhode Island, they will be redeployed again in another state to continue to assist with restoration. Unitil electric crews also assisted other utilities with restoration following the October snowstorm a year ago.

“I continue to be in awe of the service linemen and gas technicians who respond to these catastrophic weather events,” Unitil Media Relations Manager Alec O’Meara said. “Just as we have relied on the aid of other contractors to restore power to our own customers, our crews will go out and return the favor for other regions. The storm might be over for our customers, but the work will continue for several days for these dedicated crews.”

Outside of its own crews, Unitil has released the third party resources it used in the storm to assist Public Service of New Hampshire and United Illuminating Company in Connecticut. Unitil will remain in contact with other utilities in the region and will assist however possible.
