To improve service reliability for customers and municipalities in our service territories, Unitil performs enhanced tree pruning work to help increase our electric system's resiliency during a major storm.
Crews are setting up to remove identified trees in selected areas of our Capital New Hampshire and North Central Massachusetts territories this year. Selected portions of Chichester, Concord and Epsom will be pruned.Selected portions of Fitchburg and Lunenburg will be pruned. Affected streets for your area are visible in the map below.
Unitil completed similar programs in the southeastern region of New Hampshire in the fall of 2012 and 2014. We also completed work in Canterbury, Bow and Penacook, NH areas in the spring of 2013 and Fitchburg, MA in 2014.
Your consent to this important tree work can help prevent power outages!
Trees near power lines are the single greatest cause of power outages on most electric systems. Unitil has initiated a storm resiliency program to help prevent power outages caused by trees and nearby vegetation. The intent is to make the electric system more resilient during a major storm event. To accomplish this, we wish to achieve ground-to-sky clearance that would include the removal of trees and branches growing above our electric wires as well as the incompatible trees growing underneath them that could cause future problems. Please refer to the diagrams and brochure below.
Who will do the work?
The work will be performed by professional line clearance crews as part of our maintenance service.
How does Unitil proceed with the work?
If tree work is needed on your property or on town land abutting your properly, you will be contacted by our representative to discuss the work. Our representative is trained in hazard tree identification and is knowledgeable about the scope of the project. They will be seeking your consent to proceed with the necessary tree work.
How are land owners notified of the work?
Nearby land owners received a hand-delivered brochure describing the program in detail.
