Forms to Request Contractor Utility Services

Electric Meter Location Request

To request an electric meter location for the installation or upgrade of an overhead or underground service, the contractor or property owner will need to complete an application.

Customer responsibilities:

  • Provide preferred meter location
  • Provide and install meter base, service entrance cable (for overhead), conduits and pull string (for underground) and grounding of meter base
  • Install adequate point of attachment (for overhead service)

Company responsibilities: We will have a field representative perform the inspection. If the trench is not approved the field representative will be in contact with you for corrective actions necessary.

We will have a field representative check your requested location and leave a red tag and equipment for point of attachment (an eyebolt is given to the customer at the time of meter location for you to install). If for some reason your requested location is not preferred, we will place a tag at an alternate location. If a meter location is otherwise agreed upon (i.e. over the phone) and a field visit is not required, the customer may obtain equipment for the point of attachment at the Company's facility, located at:

A customer may also purchase the equipment from an alternate supplier.

Electric Trench Inspection Request

To request a trench inspection, the builder and/or contractor will need to complete an application.

Customer responsibilities: Per our construction standards, you must provide the following work:

  • Excavate and backfill trench
  • Provide and install conduit
  • Provide and install caution marking tape 12" below final grade
  • Provide 24-hour notice to schedule and perform trench inspections or contact your local wiring inspector if local codes require a trench inspection

Electric Temporary Service Request

To request temporary single phase service, the builder and/or contractor will need to complete an application.

General Information: The Company will supply temporary service when it can be served from our existing lines or facilities. If three phase temporary service is required, please contact the Company and arrange for a site visit with one of our field representatives. Please call 1-888-301-7700. The Company limits temporary service to a 12 month period.

Customer responsibilities:

  • We will have a field representative inspect your installation and contact you if there are any corrective actions necessary. Please allow 2-3 business days for this inspection.
  • If there are no corrective actions necessary please allow one week (weather permitting) for Unitil to install and energize your temporary service provided no other extensive line work is necessary.
  • We will provide and install the overhead service drop and meter for temporary overhead service or will make the connection for temporary underground service. Electric Cover Request

To request the covering of the electrical service wires while doing work near your service entrance, the customer and/or contractor will need to complete an application or call us directly.

General Information:

  • The customer/contractor may request the electrical wires be covered while working near the wires. There may be costs associated with covering the electrical lines.
  • If there is excessive cover up required (normally this occurs along a roadway on our main line for crane operation), there may be additional charges.
  • There are no costs associated with covering or removing the service line for tree trimming and/or tree removal.

 

Customer responsibilities:

  • If roofing or siding near a service entrance, there is a cost associated with covering the wires. Please call our office to inquire about the applicable costs. If there is excessive work required, there may also be additional charges.
  • You must sign and submit a completed safety release form along with your initial request. You will be prompted to download and submit this release once you have filled out the form below.
  • We accept personal checks, or money orders. Please allow at least one week for scheduling once payment and a completed safety release has been received.
  • Although lines may be covered, OSHA still requires equipment (i.e.: ladders, scaffolding) and unqualified personnel to stay a minimum of three feet away from our insulated service lines that run to a residence (normally energized at less than 300 volts) and ten feet away from our primary conductors.

Residential Electric Disconnect/Reconnect Request

To request a disconnection or reconnection of service, the customer and/or electrician will need to complete the form below.

General Information:

The customer/electrician may request a temporary disconnection of power for various reasons. There may be costs associated with this service.

 

Customer responsibilities:

Roofing/Siding disconnect/reconnect:

  • If you are roofing or siding a residence or business, there is a cost for this service. Please call our offices for the current cost of this service. We can be reached at 1-888-301-7700 ext. 3215 or ext. 3285.
  • We accept personal checks, MasterCard or Visa. To apply for credit card payment, please fill out our online form. Please allow at least one week for scheduling once payment has been made.
  • Call our office to schedule an appointment for our line crew to disconnect the service. We normally schedule appointments for 8:30 AM Monday-Friday and reconnections no later than 2:00 PM Monday-Friday. (Any reconnects after 3:00 PM will require overtime charges.) 

Electrical service upgrade:

  • If you are upgrading electrical service, there is no cost for the disconnect/reconnect unless the work is performed outside of standard business hours.
  • Please specify the amperage the service is being upgraded to (ex: increase from 60 amps to 100 amps or 200 amps to 400 amps).
  • Please allow at least one week for scheduling this disconnect/reconnect.
  • We encourage and allow electricians to disconnect the service and make temporary connections to avoid appointments with our line crew. If you need an appointment with our line crew, please call our office to schedule an appointment for the line crew to perform the disconnection. We normally schedule appointments for 8:30 AM Monday-Friday and reconnect no later than 2:00 PM Monday-Friday. (any reconnects after 3:00 PM will require overtime charges).
  • You may need to make inspection arrangements with your town inspector (if the town requires electrical inspections) before we can reconnect the service.

Commercial Three Phase Electric Service Request

We encourage you to call our office for further information regarding three phase service due to its complexity. In Massachusetts, call 1-888-301-7700 ext. 3215 or ext. 3285.
 

Customer responsibilities: A load data sheet is required for new commercial or industrial customers or when performing electrical upgrades to existing customers. You will be directed to complete this sheet once you have submitted the form below.

Required for commercial requests. Unitil provides natural gas or a mixture of natural gas and manufactured gas at a nominal pressure of 0.18 psig (5" water column). Pressure in excess of 5" water column may be provided if available. Pressures in excess of 14" water column requires the completion of a Massachusetts State Elevated Pressure Request.
