Position Concept

Design and code enhancements to Unitil's web-based business applications and support those applications. Develop technical design/requirements for new projects and lead the technical development of those projects using ASP web programming, SQL database design and management, and other batch application tools such as Visual Basic as needed. Requires effective interpersonal skills working with IT and business colleagues. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Work under general supervision. Technically support other concurrent IT projects and fellow developers to maintain existing systems and implement new systems.

Develop fundamental understanding of multiple business functions and related production systems. Work with the Software Director to translate business requirements and functional specifications into technical specifications. Implement and test application enhancements in a Sarbanes & Oxley controlled IT environment. Create and maintain technical documentation. Use standard development tools, including editors, debuggers, version control, and bug tracking. Provide technical guidance to other team members. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and gains their trust and respect and must be dedicated to meeting their expectations and requirements.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must demonstrate conceptual, practical and procedural expertise in multiple technical specialties across Web, relational database, mainframe, client/server, and data warehouse platforms. Must have experience in the following technical skills:

• ASP/Visual Basic, HTML, SQL Server, with and emphasis on good data design and advanced query writing.
• Ability to work directly with customers and vendors to understand and resolve functional or technical issues
• Ability to work independently or as a team member
• College degree in a technical specialty or equivalent experience
• Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills in technical and non-technical settings
• Comfortable working with mid-level business managers
